News

Many of you already know that this year marks our 35th year of service to over 100,000 students. In our campaign to ensure we serve 100,000 more, we’d like to announce some EXCITING NEWS!

We’ve moved back to CYO Camp in Occidental! You probably remember that we previously operated out of Catholic Charities’ CYO Camp where we flourished for many years. In a mutually beneficial agreement, we’ve partnered with Catholic Charities CYO and CYO Camp once again so that together we can serve more children in the tradition of our mission!

Catholic Charities CYO is leasing a license from Caritas Creek to operate our programs. Caritas Creek will remain an independent 501(c)3 and will continue to raise funds to send kids to camp. Both CCCYO and Caritas Creek seek to maintain the key elements of their respective programs, retain the current roster of participating schools, enhance and improve their offerings, and grow overall enrollment to expand and reinforce the positive outcomes of our programs.

While Caritas Creek has been an industry leader in environmental education programming, CYO Camp’s greater resources, larger facility, and other uniquely beneficial program components are a match for our needs and in sync with our mission. So Caritas Creek and CYO Camp have decided to partner in order to enhance the educational experience for children, increase program effectiveness, and improve the financial viability and sustainability of our programs. The Caritas Creek at CYO Camp Program will be offered in its entirety, the way our clients have come to know the program over the many years we have been in existence.

Participation fees will be $370 per student and will include transportation to and from the site in Occidental and a field trip to the Sonoma Coast. We are thrilled that this partnership will once again enable us to go to the Ocean to study shoreline ecology!

For those of you who haven’t been there, the facilities at CYO Camp in Occidental are absolutely beautiful; students will sleep in modern heated cabins and teachers will enjoy charming accommodations in a 2 unit townhouse. The facility rests in the middle of 215 acres of mixed redwood forest, meadows and creeks and has a beautiful lake for canoeing and exploration. The close proximity to the bay area allow for greater travel convenience and accessibility to our site.

Caritas Creek would like to thank you for staying connected to our community.
